Strange thing happened last night. A friend called me up and informed me that she had a nice fresh chunk of halibut fillet that her sister just brought back from Alaska. So, she invited herself over for dinner, which provoked precisely zero complaints from me!
She made some couscous and green beans, while I clarified some butter, then we cooked the fish. The interesting thing was the recipe... I've heard of "poor-man's lobster" before, but this method was new to me: Take one 2-liter bottle of Sprite, dump it in a stock pot, add a tablespoon of salt, and bring to a boil. Drop in ~1oz chunks of halibut. Wait for them to float to the top. Scoop them out. Drizzle with clarified butter and lemon juice. Mmmmm.
Strange, but it works. And its tasty.
