Our last full day! I can’t believe how quickly the week has gone. I’m getting really sad about thinking about having to go home. It’s so easy down here and people are so carefree and low stress. We woke up this morning and headed down to the TBC (yet again!) for breakfast. We saw two LGers there Whale(Jim) and his wife Gail. They invited us to join them so we did. We laughed about the night before and Whale told us about the webcam they were installing on the beach for LG.com. They are form Denver and we talked about things we had seen so far. After breakfast we ran into Lori and Stephanie. We had planned on going on a sunset sail with them, but they told us that they boat was broken. So after breakfast we went shopping. We wanted to get some gifts for the family and ourselves. There was supposedly a shopping center right down the road where sellers didn’t harass you. I say supposedly, because we’ve found that things are not always where people say they are around here, and after two hurricanes they may or may not still be standing. Anyway, the shopping center, Donna Isabel was still there. IT was at the Bahia Principal about a mile south of Akumal. There were lots of nice shops mostly classic Yucatan junk souvenirs, but some other different things too. We picked up a sculpture of a turtle hatching, a ceramic mask, a ceramic mug for dad, and a shot glass for Greg’s brother. I went into a few jewelry stores and kept looking around and found a tanzanite and opal ring. They actually had pretty good prices. After that we went back to Akumal. We went down to the beach and swam and hung out for a while and just relaxed. We ran into Barb and Chad, who were coming from lunch and heading to their hotel pool. We went to the Launcheria with Stephanie and Lori. It’s right beside the Super Chomak, the grocery store, right in front of the arches going into Akumal. It’s a little outdoor Mexican diner that’s super cheap, and pretty good food-wise. Stephanie and Lori are from Orlando and huge fans of Akumal. They’d been down here before and stayed in an all inclusive their first time just as we did, and now are renting a bungalow. It’s a lot different and they like the freedom as we do. After lunch we went into the Super Chomak and bought some souvenirs. I bought another wooden figure of a couple embracing in the shape of a ball. Greg bought a polo shirt and a hat. We took the stuff back to the room and went down to the Akumal Caribe pool to meet Stephanie, Lori, Barb, and Chad. We all agreed about how we wish we didn’t have to leave, but we haven’t figured out how to make a living in Mexico yet. It eventually became evening and was approaching dinnertime. We went back and showered and then went to meet everyone at Lol Ha. I was starving again and quickly ordered some coke, pizza, and fruit before I started on the Dos XX. We all talked about football and found some of the guys from the wedding party the previous night who knew some of the scores. Whale and some other LGers showed up and drank a little. Then the most amazing thing happened. Someone had found NFL football on Mexican TV and it was the Steelers vs. Browns! How strange to watch a Steelers game in a Mexican outside beach bar. Most people there were from Denver fans and didn’t care either way except Chad, who hates Troy Polamolou. The only problem was that the bar closed at 9:00 pm. So we all left before the game was over. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to all of our new friends and went back to our last night at Lol Ka’Naab #8. |
