|
Third party presidential candidates have zero chance of making it into the presidential debates these days. They are rarely more than a minor distraction during campaign season.
I'm wondering why exactly is that?
A TV Network's primary concern is and should be their stock holders, which means securing advertisers, which requires good ratings and lots of viewers.
How much would putting Bob Barr or Cynthia McKinney side my side with McCain and Obama really change their ratings? Did the Ross Perot debacle give them some insight into this, or do they just do it for political reasons?
Are they afraid that someone bringing an insane whacko like Chuck Baldwin into the debates would hurt ratings? I rather think it would turn it into a cross between a reality show and Jerry Springer, which is guaranteed to bring in more viewers.
BTW, I'm not saying it would be good to give Baldwin any press, because frankly that would be bad for the country, but the TV stations don't care what's good for the country. |
