Word on the street is that West Virginia and South Carolina now have a reciprocity agreement for recognition of concealed weapon permits.
Glad to hear it. That new law in SC is leading to more reciprocity. The law still isn't perfect, but at least now SLED can only drag their feet instead of flatly saying 'no'.
America is getting closer to nationwide CCW, one tiny step at a time. With my Florida license, I can now carry a concealed firearm in 34 of 50 states. Of the remaining 16 states:
Two do not have any CCW provisions (IL, WI)
Seven are very restrictive "may-issue" (MD, CA, HI, NY, NJ, MA, RI)
Two are less restrictive "may-issue" (CT, IA)
and Five are shall-issue, but with some issues that prevent reciprocity (ME, WA, OR, NE, MN)
With some work, those last five can be added to the list in the next few years. Some of the issues are such small technicalities that they shouldn't be hard to fix legislatively. For instance, the state of Washington requires that reciprocal states not issue licenses to people under the age of 21. It makes sense to eliminate that clause since they can still enforce their own "must be 21 to carry" statutes regardless of the reciprocal state's law. This wording was probably put in the law because it "made sense" at the time, when in reality all it does is keep the state from entering into reciprocity agreements with quite a few other states. |
