Sebastian asks: "Am I The Only One who thought An American Carol kind of sucked?"
Yes, Sebastian, you are the only one. Well, at least the only one who isn't a communist. You aren't an America-hating communist are you Sebastian? Heheheh.
Personally, I thought quite a few bits were hysterical. ACLU zombies... that's priceless. If you didn't laugh at that, then you have no sense of humor. Other parts were cheesy.
Remember though, it is not a movie to hold up next to The Godfather or Shawshank Redemption. It is a comedy. It is supposed to be silly. Regardless of the underlying message of patriotism and such, they weren't going for "deep". They were going for laughs.
I personally rank movies on this scale:
1 ) "Must see it in the theater and buy it when it comes out on video" (Lord of the Rings)
2 ) "It is worth seeing it in the theater and maybe renting it again later" (300)
3 ) "Doesn't matter if you see it in the theater or not, but buy it and watch it over and over" (Hackers)
4 ) "Wait until it comes out on video, then put it in your Netflix queue" (Men in Black)
5 ) "Must see it in the theater but never watch it again" (Twister)
6 ) "Watch it for the first time when TNT starts showing it" (Matrix: Revolutions)
7 ) "Only watch it if your wife insists" (Bridges of Madison County)
8 ) "Change the channel, or leave the theater halfway through" (Saw)
I'd rate it somewhere in between 2 and 3 on that scale.
If you wanna put it on a 1-10 scale, I'd give it a solid 6.5. If that scale only includes other comedies, it gets an 8.5.
Very few movies have ever made me laugh out loud. American Carol made me laugh out loud many times. |
