A number of news outlets and blogs have discussed how gun sales are up, and most of them point to the flopping economy and the potential of an severely anti-gun president/congress. Our local gun-stupid news source weighs in as well. Thankfully, they went to the gun store for facts instead of (mostly impotent) anti-rights lobbyist Arthur C. Hayhoe.
It is actually a fairly decent article, except that the author clearly didn't actually do any follow-up research. They get the bit about "assault weapons" mostly right because the author is only quoting people who actually know about guns (imagine that!), but stumble on other points.
The author does confuse (and incorrectly names) "shall-issue" (which relates to concealed carry) with the fact that the anyone in the state who can pass a background check can get a firearm. The latter doesn't have a term... it is just how things are.
Further evidence of lack of research, blindly quoting an incorrect Reuters report:According to a Reuters report ... Florida ranks 2nd as a top supplier of crime guns to other states. In the report Reuters bases their article on, the BATFE specifically said their info could NOT be used for the purposes which it was use. Traced guns are not the same thing as crime guns. A lie, repeated often enough...
The first comment to the article is funny as well. Apparently, Tampa Bays 10, who normally marches lock-step with Brady Campaign talking points is now suddenly part of the vast right-wing conspiracy, seeking to discredit Obama. Hah!
