I tell my friends up north that Floridians, especially those living in Tampa and southward, freak out when the mercury drops below "warm enough for a t-shirt". The winter before last, we got a good frost in February, and I think every Walmart in the TB area sold out of space heaters, winter jackets, and emergency supplies.
Those who haven't lived here that long call Floridians wimps. You'll hear things like, "Back in dubya-vee during the winter of aught-two, we got twelve feet of snow, and the windchill was minus-ten. They didn't even cancel school! Yall'r wimps."
I say that as I shiver, note the 45° temperature on the weather channel, then go back to the closet to get a heavier coat. Blood thins out fast. |
