Robert Byrd has stepped down from chairmanship of the Appropriations Committee.

Byrd will remain a member of the committee. He is also still President Pro Tempore of the Senate, putting him right behind Pelosi in the line of succession.
Loony liberals gave McCain a hard time for being old... Byrd is old enough to be McCain's father.
