National Park Concealed Carry and Florida |

Since the new rule regarding guns in National Parks is out, and will take effect soon, there have been a lot of questions flying around. In particular, a lot of people want to know how the new rule will effect parks in their home state.
Florida currently has no restrictions on carrying a concealed weapon in a National Park, so long as you have a valid CWP and are carrying pursuant to any/all other relevant laws. So as soon as the new rule takes effect, (disclaimer: IANAL, but this is how I understand it) permit holders may legally carry their concealed firearms on NPS land in Florida.
Many CWP holders in Florida will remember that only a few years ago, the Florida State Park service changed their rule regarding concealed weapons. The new rule still bans guns in general, but allows for possession of a gun pursuant to other Florida law, which happens allows for concealed carry with a permit (don't have your permit yet? Get it!) It seems (IANAL) that the only places that are off-limits for concealed carry in Florida now are the "obvious ones", listed under 790.06, and any place where federal law bars possession of a firearm.
Here are some of the Florida parks affected by the new NPS rule:
Everglads National Park. The biggest and most alligator infested park in Florida.
Big Cypress National Preserve. This is the beautiful swap north of the Everglades. Also alligator infested.
Biscayne National Park. A significant portion of Biscayne is actually under water. I don't suggest SCUBA diving with your Glock.
Canaveral National Seashore. Just don't stray onto NASA or Patrick AFB property while carrying.
Gulf Islands National Seashore. Be sure you know the difference between NPS land and the various military base property. I believe some of the land adjoining the national seashore is part of Eglin AFB.
