This upcoming episode discussing open-carry will be a good one. Tune in tomorrow, I know I will be.
Open carry has never been a hot issue for me because even if it were legal in Florida, I'd still carry concealed. I know there are a million different opinions on the matter, but that's just my preference.
However, I really dislike current Florida law completely barring open carry because it provides additional liability for me when I carry concealed. If the wind blows my cover, and my sidearm is temporarily exposed, that is considered "open carry" and a serious crime.
On the other hand, in my home state of WV, there are no laws against open carry (it is still incredibly uncommon.) If you are less careful with your concealment in WV and your gun shows, it is embarrassing but not criminal.
My personal hope is that the (hopefully) soon-to-be-proposed open carry bill which is gaining a lot of support in Texas is adopted, which would make it more palatable for other states to follow suit. If you recall, that is precisely how shall-issue concealed carry became commonplace. |
