    Jury Duty Time Comment

    The coffee sucks, but at least the Pinellas County Criminal Justice Center has computers in the Jury Assembly room.

    Good thing, because I forgot to bring a book and I still haven't been called yet.

    When I told people at my office that I'd been called for jury duty, they all told me different ways to get out of it... of course, I'm pretty sure most of them don't actually work. Regardless, I was kind of excited because I've never served on a jury before. Now I realize "Jury Duty" is a code word for sitting around in a room full of bored people, drinking crap coffee, and hoping for anything that might make the day more interesting.

    Between the questionnaire to serve on a federal jury pool( I was actually looking forward to it, at first) six months before and the actual call to serve, I'd been hired as a deputy sheriff.
    To add to your commentary, it is hard to tell what part of serving was more annoying. The choices were between the 90 mile(one way) drive(at 5am), three day notice to come, confirmation procedure that assured that you had to clear your calender for the that day (or week if you got picked) with no assurance that you were actually going to have to go until the night before, no parking within two blocks, security check-in with taking off all manner of garments(winter in the Dakotas), no storage for said garments(lots of people standing a warm room with parkas), no coffee, rotten pay( remember, I'm a rural deputy, I'm used to low pay, this was bad and you got it a month later), no way to get out of it(post questionnaire) and the sure knowledge that no sane attorney of either side was going to pick you because of familiarity with the officers/offenders that would be testifying.
    I wonder why they have problems getting people to serve and they try to get out of it.

    I got my letter on Saturday, saying that I have to report for jury duty on February 23 or they will send an officer out with a testicle noose to drag me in and cane me. I hope it's not all that bad...

    Yea, I was stuck with Jury duty once, but after a couple of questions, I was dismissed.
