Dear Lord. What a mess.
I got there early, before the gates opened, and I waited in line at least 45 minutes to get inside. Once I was inside, I could barely move. The bulk ammo booths were non-stop. People were knocking each other over to get a crate or two of their favorite caliber. By mid-morning, popular booths like Georgia Arms were running low on popular calibers.
The run on black rifles is still the big story. There were plenty to be had, at inflated prices. I spent about 3 hours wandering the floor, and the cheapest EBR I found was a barebones DPMS for $900. There was a total of ONE lower-receiver parts kit for sale... for the lofty sum of $99. There were plenty of stripped lowers for anywhere from $179 to $350. I found a single basic 16" DPMS Carbine upper for $675, some pimped out specialty uppers for a lot more, and Florida Survivalist even had an AR57 upper.
But alas, nothing for me. I nearly bought the DPMS upper, but the seller only accepted cash, and I was a little short.
I did pick up a new folding knife for Beth, and of course, the most important gun show purchases: beef jerky and ammo.
The beef jerky has to all be consumed immediately though, because Monday is the first day of Lent (according to the eastern Paschal calendar.) The ammo (.223) won't be consumed until I can find myself a !@#$*&@ upper that doesn't require me to get a second mortgage. |
