This is what I've been saying.
An artificial withdrawal date is a bad idea. But saying, "Once we've reached goals A, B and C, then we can leave" is fine by me. I think we need to get the Iraqi government stable, and get them to the point they can train their own security forces. We don't have to eliminate all violence, because that'll never happen anyway. Making sure oil money gets to the people is a very important thing too. Without a better economy, Iraq won't be able to remain stable.
Or... just let the Iraqi parliament vote on whether or not we stay. Regardless of what happens, if the legitimate, elected government asks us to leave, we should leave. If they ask us to stay, we should stay.
Let's just ask them to vote on it. I guarantee they'll vote for us to stay, because they know they won't be in power long if we leave right now. |
