You know there is one thing in my life that I love, but I never post about. (Yea, yeah I know I don't post too much as it is.) I love music. It's easy to say that, but it's really about the passion. To be able to hear a song that really moves you is a powerful thing. And God knows I love those passionate moments life gives us. They are so rare.
I've found lately that I wasn't really listening to the words. My right brain says, "So what. I crave the bass. The melody." Old lefty says, "No way! The words have to mean something." So to make them both happy I've spent a good deal of time reading lyrics while listening to the song. As a reader, I always appreciate great writing. To be able to move someone with your words is a gift. But to write with such depth you know these people have lived. Really lived. And I say "Damn, there are some people out there that really get it."
You all know me. I'm in a constant search for people that get it; People who have been to war. Fought the battles and survived. There are some lifewar veterans out there, and they are freakin good songwriters.
I feel like I'm an infant sometimes. Figuring out these obvious life lessons long after everyone else. Cut me some slack. I missed a few years of life a while back...
So what I want to know is who has been moving you lately? Which songs make you cry, which make you scream at the top of your lungs, who moves you to keep going on the bad days, which songs make you fall in love all over again every time you hear the first few notes?
I'll start, but I need some input here.
So I've been groovin' on Evanescence 24/7 lately. If you have a chance check out their lyrics. Evanescence LyricsYeah all of them. I can't tell you how amazing the words are. For a person that's been through some hell in life, it's soothing to hear some else express the feelings I've gone through.
Fav. lyrics of this week are:
'these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase'
Also very excited about the release of the Argument CD, Recess Serenade. The album isn't out until March, but I've been privileged to hear it already from a friend. It ROCKS!! I already pre-ordered it, which says a lot because I never order or buy cds very often. My favorite song lyrics from the Argument at the moment are:
'All the stuff I swore would never even cross my mind,
Starts to crowd my head as soon as I'm 25.
I'm old enough to realize I've got some growin' up to do,
Oh no, but not just yet.
I have to get a second job 'cause I don't make enough,
My bank accounts overdrawn and my credit sucks.
I'm holding out for paid vacation days and a 401k plan,
But I don't know what that is.
Chorus:
I don't ever want to get myself together and act my age,
I don't ever want to get my shit together and act my age.'
You guys are awesome!
Ok so that's all from me for tonight. Let me know what's going on in your music world.
