Legislation won't stop gun crimes.
Microstamping is a failure as a concept. It will continue to be a failure if they try to implement it.
Seeing as how California's Time-To-Crime for traced firearms, per the recently released ATF gun trace report, is 12.70 years... Even without "criminal tampering" of a microstamping firing pin, a lot of guns will probably be used enough that the firing pin will be worn down.
I haven't seen any kind of testing on how many rounds it takes to wear down the microstamp on the firing pin, but I suppose it doesn't matter. Two seconds with a file or some sandpaper will do the same thing.
You can't use technology to fix a social problem, just like you can't use laws to fix a social problem. More importantly, you can't legislate technology, because you'll end up with bad technology, bad policies, and no easy way to change it. |
