I just had to take a moment and write. I'm at work right now, and have been slaving away over the computer and phone all day. I just got off the phone for a reference check. And this woman made me think. It was a pretty normal call. When did you work with this person? What were their duties? Their title? Is there any thing of significance you can tell me about them?
That last question was the one that this sweet lady talked most about. I asked her to tell me about this candidate's character. His work ethic. In her words:
"He is like my brother. We are very close to him. He's been there for me through everything. He's hard working and reliable." I say, "What makes him this way? What has he done that has shown this? Normal questions touching answer.
"My husband died. He was killed in the Pentagon crash. When the airplanes hit. W---- has been there for me through this all. He's been my brother and my friend and his family has welcomed us with open arms."
WOW that's on hell of a reference, but really.
This woman remembers everyday that she is living with out her husband. She can never forget him. I can't even imagine. My brain wouldn't know what to do with such pain.
All this war debate, I was going side to side, back and forth. War and peace.
It's not about that. It's about this woman who's husband died for no reason. Years later she still misses him and wishes he was with her. War or Peace? It doesn't matter just don't let any more wives, mothers, daughters suffer a loss like this. Cause i know i couldn't do it...
