In celebration of Repeal Day.
I recommend a trappist-brewed ale, such as Chimay Blue Grande Reserve, for the chilly weather. It is one of my favorite staples, and quite frankly, I think it is the best of the "mass produced" Belgians. There are quite a few excellent microbrews in the US and elsewhere that make Belgian-style ales, which are also noteworthy... but I can buy Chimay at the grocery store, and I do. Or, if you can find some place that sells Avery Reverend, I'd highly recommend it. Avery is one of the fine US (Colorodo) breweries. Oh, and Ommegang is another favorite. Ok, I'll stop listing favorite beers. There are too many anyway.
For a decent, although not entirely complete list, of available Belgians, check out beergeek.
Of course, if you have too much money and time on your hands... you could try to find some ale from Westvleteren.
Cheers! |
