I wouldn't have guessed that. I live about 10 minutes from Clearwater... I'm not saying I'd retire here... but Clearwater is worse than Anchorage? Yikes... I dunno about that. If your furnace stops working in the winter here, you probably won't even notice for a few days. In Anchorage, you'll probably die*.
"bland culture, extreme weather and high real estate and homeowner's insurance prices."
I dunno about "bland"... Clearwater is right down the road from Tampa and St. Petersburg, where culture abounds. Sure, it isn't Paris, but I think that's a little harsh. Extreme Weather? Clearwater doesn't get hit by many hurricanes (knock on wood, and all that.) There is about a month in the summer when it is too hot. It rains for about 30 minutes every afternoon in the summer too. There is about a week in the winter where it is too cold (but just barely.) The rest of the time it is sunny and 70-75 degrees. If that isn't as close to perfect weather as you can get, I dunno what is. The real estate market sucks everywhere for sellers, but prices are starting to drop, making it easier to buy. Insurance... well, yeah, it sucks. When we moved down here, our insurance and tax rates both quadrupled.
The report also noted that Clearwater has the highest percentage of senior citizens of any U.S. city If it sucks so much, why are they all here? Why do all the bluehairs come down for the winter?
* - Ok, that's hyperbole. But people in Clearwater don't die from hypothermia. |
