Another man gets roughed up by clueless cops. And there are quite recent memories of this happening to other folks.
I understand that cops can't know all the laws. It isn't their job to. However, in no possible way could his actions have been perceived to be a threat to anyone's safety. Thugs and gangstas don't openly carry guns in holsters. They tuck their guns into their sagging pants, or something similar. They also tend to act threatening when they are performing their criminal acts.
This dude was minding his own business, and he was accosted and illegally held by cops who should at least have some concept of gun laws. Assuming that since he isn't a cop, he wasn't allowed to have a sidearm is patently ridiculous, and says a lot about what some cops think about our right to self defense. Regardless, if the cop didn't know the law, he could have resolved the issue with a 2-minute call to his supervisor, instead of illegally detaining this man for half an hour.
At the very least, I hope this man gets a public apology. |
