Brady Campaign Press Release with nothing but interview-style quotes from, er, Paul Helmke.
Does anyone else find that amusing? I they must have had a hard time finding newly elected congress-critters willing to talk to them. "This shows again that support for common sense gun laws will not hurt candidates at the polls, regardless of political party," said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and a former Indiana Republican Senate nominee. "A number of candidates running for the Senate who sided with us on the gun issue won." Notice that instead of "supporting gun control helps you", he's saying, "it won't hurt you." Although this is laughably false in most districts across the country, you have to grin at how the Brady Campaign of late is forced to play defense. The second part of the quote explains how "a number" of gun control supporters won.
I haven't done the math. I'm sure Sebastian will. But I'll take a wild guess and say his "number" isn't as big as ours. On top of that, even the most anti-rights public servants seem to have caught on that even mentioning gun control is poisonous to their career.
Declare victory as much as you want, Paul. It may even earn you a few bucks here and there. Unfortunately for you, your lies are becoming so obvious that I marvel at your ability to say any of this with a straight face.
(Note: David Kopel has some math here.) |
