People are complaining about the T-Groins which are being used to stem beach erosion, claiming they are ugly and get in the way.
My personal opinion is that they just don't really work. I fully understand the importance of nice beaches to Florida's tourism-based economy. However, consider that mankind has been battling with the force of water moving rocks and dirt and sand around for a million years now... and we have never EVER figured out a way to beat it. Sure, we can slow it down a little, or spend millions of dollars on projects that will temporarily change where the sand settles. But ever since the first ape climbed down out of the trees and decided to take a dip in the ocean, Mother Nature has held a 100% monopoly on what happens to the sand and the sea.
I don't have a problem with the city/county/state governments trying to protect the local economy. But you just can't win when you go to war with the sea. So, good luck with all your efforts, but don't be disappointed when you lose. |
