Last night at around 6pm, my in-laws decided it would be a good time to fix the ceiling in my bathroom. It needed to be done, I guess, and I was too under-the-weather to make any objection about their timing... so the old drop ceiling was ripped out, paint was scraped, and wallpaper was torn. Even though I had some misgivings about how well the plan would work, we made good progress, and it looks like the bathroom may end up being as good as new by the end of the day... if everything goes well, that is.
As I write this, new carpet is being installed in our living room. Before the ceiling near-fiasco, I spent all afternoon packing, trashing and moving stuff around. So basically, the two biggest problems I have with my house (stained carpet, and an ugly bathroom) will be (mostly) fixed by the end of the day. Just in time to move out.
Hectic. Stressful. Intense. Uncertain. Really more than either me or my wife can deal with, but we're managing, and hopefully it will all be done with in a month or two. I doubt we could manage any of this without the help of our friends... they have been around for both emotional support and to help move boxes from one room to the next.
Still, I think the best way to explain what we're dealing with now is: "If I ever think it would be a good idea to move, please just slap me." Although I'm sure it will not come true, my wish is to never move again after this... except perhaps when I retire. And if I ever do move again, I'm going to just throw away all my stuff and buy new stuff whereever I end up. |
