MFG Logo When I first bought the boat on Ebay, I wasn't sure what it was. Some of the helpful folks at the iboats.com boat restoration forum suggested it might be an MFG. Good call! | Minor hull damage This shouldn't be too bad to fix up. Could have been a lot worse. |
Gargantuan motor Johnson Super Seahorse 50. Man this beast is heavy. All the controls are still in the boat too, although I'll probably have to replace a lot of wire. | The Motor again Here's another shot of the motor. |
Cylinders Whoops, no spark plugs. This motor has been out in the elements so long, I hope I can get it running again. I have a strange feeling there are spider nests in the cylinders. (1 comments) | Mystery Hole Not sure why these are here. They aren't original to the boat, so I might just re-fiberglass them. Whomever cut most of the holes in this boat is an idiot... horrible, shoddy job. Ah well, there are plenty of other holes for me to fix anyway. (2 comments) |
Rear of the boat Just so everyone can get a good idea of what I'm up against, here is the back of the boat. When I picked it up, it was filled with leaves and beer cans and other junk. And the wooden floor is barely more than splinters. | Red/Green bow light How classic! Some of the metal bits on this boat are absolutely beautiful... or at least they were originally. I might have to get some of them re-chromed. |
Seats and Dash view I'm going to tear these seats out and rebuild them. I'm also taking everything out of the dash, re-glassing all the weird holes in it, then installing my own guages. | Spotlight Very cool feature on this boat. This falls into the category of "may get re-chromed". It is in great condition though. |
Steering Wheel This steering wheel is in pretty bad shape. I want to keep it, but I really don't know if there is any way to fix it. It is a hard rubber plastic with white paint. I dunno, I might have to buy or manufacture a new one. Guess I better consult with the iboats.com forum folks. | Lotsa holes in the top shell I guess I had to expect this. Lotsa bondo work to be done. There were a lot of little steel peices on here that the previous owner just screwed into the shell with mis-matched, easily corroded screws. Not going to be able to escape painting the top I'm afraid. |
Cracked Windshield Even if it wasn't cracked, I'd still replace it. It is all yellowish and ugly looking. There is a nice how-to on MFGBoats.com on how to replace these windshields with Lexan. | Logo piece on windshield Even though I'm replacing the windshield, I'm gonna keep all these little bits. Some of them might need re-cast (ala Mark42's brilliant work.) |
Save the worst for last Well, this is the kicker... of course the transom is gonna need re-done. I'm hoping to use sea-cast, since I don't want to ever have to fool with it again. I'm not really looking forward to this one. | Cracked Windshield Even if it wasn't cracked, I'd still replace it. It is all yellowish and ugly looking.
